Sliding Scale/

Costs

If you have more financial resources please pay more. If you have less — please use sliding scale or trade — reciprocity is absolutely welcome!

On the Sliding Scale Model:

I am interested in building a world where opportunities are wide open and based on reciprocity. I am excited to be trying a new workshop model where I trust that my labor will be respected and compensated for AND where it is open to all, regardless of ability to pay.

The Experimental Model is as follows:

Someone whose house needs repair offered the house to be repaired by students with the understanding that the repairs will be sound but not perfect. Students will contribute what they are able,  and more people will have these valuable skills that can be used in older houses. For this class we will be working at a rooming house on the East Side of Detroit over 2 weekends. Once you register here you will be sent more information.   Below are the true costs of the Plaster Repair Workshop and here is a link to sign up for that workshop. Please donate below if you would like to support this model/class but do not want to take the class yourself.

Costs: Workshop Budget

Workshop Cost = Instructor Labor + Materials + Insurance ÷ Maximum 6 people.

I am posting the true estimated costs here for transparency. When I do plaster repair I charge a sliding scale of $25-$75 an hour and I bid at $40, allowing clients to decide what their ability to pay is.  I have 25 years + of experience with fabrication, plastering and home remodeling. I am absolutely willing to provide my services for less for someone with less financial means but am unwilling to provide discounted services to those with wealth who discount the value I bring.

Prep and clean up: @20 hours x $40 = $600

Teaching time: 24 hours x $40 = $960

Material cost (itemized below for breakdown): $300 (rounded up for taxes)

Insurance? Not sure yet blind estimate $300

Total Workshop Estimate: $2160

Total Workshop Estimate per student in dollars: $360

Materials

or Consumables. These are the materials I estimate we will use during the course of the class. ((all estimates from Home Depot because of ease of website. I will likely purchase materials for the website at Boomers or Sabiston). Please be aware that no one can create a firm budget right now because of inflation.
